Water, and the filter

There is water everywhere on this route. Not all of it is drinkable, and that is the whole point of the filter.

There are streams and lakes the whole way, and taps in the villages you can fill from. Be careful, though — not all of it is drinking water. That is why I carried a filter. It is a small device you screw onto the bottle, and it saved me more times than I can count. Two reasons I would not go without one. A lot of the huts along the way only sell drinking water, and there are whole stretches with far fewer taps, where filling from a stream during the day is the only option. And it lets you carry less. If you can drink from more sources you do not need to walk with as much on your back, and water is the heaviest thing you carry.
